Cannes or Can’t … Ok, I must admit up front that this is something I have zero interest in but for some of you, it may be very, very exciting.  The Cannes Film Festival, which makes the Oscars look like a backyard weenie roast is scheduled for May 14th through the 25th next year.  Our Sales Convention in Monaco is from May 10th to the 17th.   Cannes is roughly 30 miles down the French Riviera Coast from Monaco and takes just a little more than an hour by bus, train, cab or car.  A little longer by speed boat, which we did and was very cool and a bit shorter by helicopter, which we also did and which was also very cool.  (Let your wallet be your guide on transport.)  Cannes was one of the initial spots we checked out for the convention home base. We actually tried to split the destination between Cannes and Monaco but just couldn’t swing the logistics.  Even though the two cities are fairly close in proximity, Cannes is much more French in atmosphere while Monaco is a bit more Italian-ish.  By itself, Cannes is worth a day trip with nice sandy beaches fronting about a 1 mile long promenade.  In addition to a quaint local market place, every high end retailer (really high end) has shops along the main beach front thoroughfare. The main theater/convention hall for the film festival is close to the western end of the marina promenade.  It’s all very walkable.  Having said that, the place will be busting at the seams with stars, wanna-be stars, wanna-see stars and everything in-between.  If that is your kind of thing, this will be the place to be.
